August 21, 2015: Awesome proms and AR 12403 AMAZING

Recommended Posts

Just had the SM-II 60mm out during lunch, viewing the sun through thin cloud. The tree proms in the south-east seem to be growing taller still, and are bending towards the low complex of proms to their north. The low arc on the north-eastern limb has grown into a huge arc. Clearly something big is rotating our way. AR 12403 has developed a lot, showing at least two big sunspots, and a host of coiling bright and dark filamentous structures in between. There also seems to be some flaring going on, including a bright little arc to the south-west of the main mass of AR 12403. A small patch of plage can also be seen due north of the big AR, on the northern hemisphere. The western half of the disk is more quiet, with a small AR southwards and a thick, short filament northwards. Well worth a look

Thanks for that Michael, another excellent description. I almost felt I was there.  Alas i haven't been, been working - though it's been mostly raining and overcast here.  I don't think I'll have much of a chance by time I get home, but you never know.  Still pleased that t least I had a view yesterday -
