For the core of my M42 I just use the unstretched image straight from DSS! I didn't take different-length subs so also did two separate stretches for the nebulosity so there were three layers in all. It should be much simpler for a glob!

There are other methods, but have a bash.

Im not one for PS to be honest as its yet another load of stuff to learn so i try to stick with PI

I made a star mask inverted it then applied HDR it sorted out the core a bit

Brings out the propeller very well
