New scope (Skywatcher 150P) and just tried out some prime focus photography with my trusty old D70. First time and quite pleased with the result. 1/200 sec at ISO200 (plus a little tweaking/sharpening in PS Elements) for those who are interested. Took a few attempts to the exposure right. Looking forward to trying it out on other targets!

That's a lovely image mate loads of detail and clear as a bell. I tried holding my smartphone to the EP tonight and got a couple that were 'ok'. As above, I've started looking at some proper equipment, I think that could be my savings gone lol

Great image.

That's the beauty of digital as you found out, plenty of trials before you get the right exposure, I did just the same a few days ago. However your image has more detail than mine as I struggled to get the focus. Well done.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, folks. Just an observation on focussing (which was quite tricky) - the camera has a feature where you can zoom in on parts of the shot after it is taken and I used that to fine tune the focussing as I found it quite difficult through the camera eyepiece alone. I'd be interested to hear any other handy hints or tips for focussing a DSLR on prime focus.

My dslr is connected to my nexus 7 tablet and using dslr controller I get a much bigger live view with 2 zooms supported of 5x and 10x which helps getting focus with out contouring to look at the camera screen in live view.

Do you know if you can connect a dslr to an iPad?

I have a habit of bricking laptops!
