Optically, mechanically and cosmetically no worse than much of the stuff on fleabay.

Also the seller appears to be genuine.

I bought one of these and it wasn't up to much, it wasn't collimated either. Sent in back for a refund.

As a kid I made a pair like these. I liked the perfect adaptation to my pupils, the lack of any distortion, pinpoint stars across the field, and the 100% transmission. I did flock them to avoid internal reflections on bright objects like the moon.

The main stumbling block being falling over things while your looking up.

2.3x40? exit pupil 17.4mm, quite suitable for this guy

They probably want the huge objective to avoid vignetting more than anything else

I wonder what size his pupils dilate to......must be to the edge of the orangey bits......if he looked up at the night sky, his brain would probably explode.

Not a problem, when do you go observing in the rain?

Rain falls from clouds, clouds obscure the stars so you don't observe in the rain.

Prefer the blue banded version myself.

Yes. A good quality cyanoacrylate should do the job very quickly.
