First DSO - M42

Hi all,

The sky was pretty clear today so I decided to try and take my first DSO - M42.

Used Sky Watcher 200p on EQ5 with Canon 600D.

40 frames, 6 sec exposure each.

ISO - 400.

Tips and comments are welcomed!

Nice start. Amazing what just 6s subs can capture. Some longer subs would get you more of the outlying bits.

Great result on the Trapezium. As above, see how long you can go for then combine the two in Ps.

Unfortunately from the city I can't take a longer exposure because of the light pollution.

But I'm going to the desert this weekend hopefully I could make longer exposure.

Get yourself an Astronomik CLS or UHC clip-in filter. I've used both the Astronomik and Baader filters in my sig and can get 2-3 min at iso 1600 and f/5.4 with my Megrez 90 / FR from London, and a LVM of about 4 (If I'm lucky)

I just got myself a hutech idas lp filter in the hope of keeping lp away... Folks here at SGL say it's a great filter.

Better be because it's not cheap!

That's very impressive detail in the core... Very nice as is, but the potential to be the beginnings of something special!
