A thing of beauty

Recommended Posts

I used to have one of those - the earlier ones with the metal dew shield ?. The coatings on it were a lovely deep purple colour

There used to be some debate over whether the newer lenses with newer coatings were quite as good as those older ones. Probably nothing in it but I certainly preferred the metal dew shield to the later plastic type.

Nice scope, i have heard rumours regarding the old purple coated ones being slightly better, but if this is the case it cant be a lot.

Regarding the dewshield, i have toyed with making a sliding metal dew shield for my 100RS, could be smart

Yes it has a metal dew shield and it is about half as long as my 100RS's plastic one.

Next time I pop over to Todmorden I must have a good look at Peters internal erf version, last time I had 30 seconds of viewing through it before the rains arrived.

Loveley picture. I am in a similar position. Never owned a refractor before, got a TAL 100RS. i was able to recognise the difference in contrast of a refractor to that of a SCT or reflector that people spoke of, it was really enjoyable. I do feel sad in some respects to be "chopping it up" for a PST mod. I am fitting a D-ERF internally to it. Just collecting the remaining bits and pieces.
