Dusting or mirror

Recommended Posts

A high power, manually operated, blower works well but you need to get it reasonably close to the surface of the mirror (a few cm) which means taking the mirror / mirror cell out of the scope for a solid tube newtonian.

I'd just ignore it as it won't affect the performance. Shining a torch onto the mirror always makes it look awful so don't do that !

Ans what about using a static cloth or something?

NO - please don't.     If the mirror gets badly crudded up then you can take it out and run it under a tap, possibly some soap flakes, then flush off with distilled water and put it somewhere safe to air dry (mirror vertically inclined).    Try to avoid touching the mirrored surface. As others have said unless really filthy don't worry as it will have very little effect on performance.Jake

the advice for dust on the mirror is sort of the same as that for a car engine noise that you cannot resolve. for the engine, just turn up your radio and enjoy the drive, for the dust, just don't look down your telescope but through it.
