Where can I visit an Observatory ?

Are there any Observatorys not too far from Oxford that allow public viewing, or hold open evenings of any sort.

Id like to go and have a look at a large scope, see what goes on and how it all works.

See here for an observatory with open days/eves http://www.the-observatory.org/

Although its not that close to Oxford, it is a very good facility. They have a weekend star party coming up on the 7th September.

it was a reasonable question , also many people on here have observatories and as i have found out astromers tend to be very helpful and if someone in oxfordshire see's this i would imagine they would not be averse to offering a chance for AINSLEY to have a wee peak . google isn't always the answer [if it was then this and almost all forums would be defunct ] and a reply like that was uncalled for .

I really hope that you havent asked for any advice on here and instead relied on Google / Bing for all your information.

The closest one to me is Dunsink here in Dublin. I've never been there. I really must pay a visit. A bit further away is the Armagh Planterium up there in Northern Ireland.
