In tribute to Sir Bernard Lovell.

The wonderful Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank was used as a projection screen for the Flaming Lips Transmissions gig. Here's the intro to Race for the Prize I filmed last year.

A great man and a great loss to Astronomy.

I believe the radio telescope is named "The Lovell Telescope" so that will remain as a significant and fitting tribute.

The big dish was known as the Mark-1A until it was renamed The Lovell Telescope in his honour around 2000. The smaller elliptical dish on the site is known as the Mark-2.

The Jodrell Bank site was part of land owned by the University of Manchester botany department, but if Sir Bernard had chosen the site next door, it would have been known as Daisy Bank!

One of the things Sir Bernard found was that meteors happened during the day. Radio reflections during a meteor storm proved they happen during the day as well as night. This was proven as the rise and fall of meteors from visual observations of the Draconids and the radio excitement of WWII equipment that Lovell had in 1946. The sound is best described as a "peeow" type sound or a strange ray gun sound/sharp fall of a beep lasting a few seconds.

As for constellations? A brief search brought up loads of sites but no information on constellations as such.
