That is sad to hear, he a great man. At least his legacy will be with us for a long time (Jodrell bank) condolances to his family.

A great man. Well known for Jodrell Bank, he is less well known as the developer of H2S - the airborne radar use in Lancasters and Halifaxes towards the end of the war, and for which he received an OBE.

I doubt it. With the Olympics on I think they will put it as a footnote as though it was a sort of non event that is not worthy. News is like that.

This has to be one of the better memories of Lovell. Sky at night 1981

Also a great loss for amateur radio. The work he did paved the way for science and the theory of radio drom Jodrell. His work filtered into many things.

Whenever I see pictures of Jodrell Bank radio telescope the name Bernard Lovell springs immediately to mind. A great man who will be sorely missed.

So sorry to hear of Sir Bernard's death. He was a truly great British scientist (in a long line of great British inventors/scientists/innovators)- why oh why is it that we come up with the great ideas,only for them to be developed and capitalised abroad?. I can remember reading about Jodrell bank- possibly in 'The Eagle' comic- when I was five or six years old,truly an enduring engineering achievement. R.I.P..

I believe the radio telescope is named "The Lovell Telescope" so that will remain as a significant and fitting tribute.

I remember reading his biography "Into the Zenith" when I was a child and then going to see Jodrell Bank. Got me hooked for life I think!!

A brilliant farsighted man, and his name will remain synonymous with Radio Astronomy.

Jodrell Bank should remain forever as a memorial to his work.
