Pelican Nebula in Ha - 2 nights

Dave Smith

Recommended Posts

On the first night (Sun) I missed off the beak and didn't take darks. Consequently there were some artifacts caused by hot pixels so on the second night (Mon) I did take darks and dithered to avoid that problem and also managed the framing better.

Scope: Megrez72 with 0.8x FR

Camera: Atik 314L with Baader 7nm Ha filter

about 40 x 5 min subs

Calibrated, aligned and stacked in Maxim and processed in Photoshop.

This is also the first time I have confidentally used the high pass filter in conjunction with a star mask. All good fun.

Lovely picture as always Dave and an excellent contrasty process. What was your high pass - 3 pixels, blend hard light and adjust opacity?

As far as I can remember it was 6 pixels, blend overlay and 100%.

Thanks Spikey and Gina

Dave i've just checked with Digital Sky Assist my field of view with the 314l and my ed80 + focal reducer which gives me an effective F/L 510mm. and unfortunately I would have to resort to doing mosaics. oh well maybe a future project
