thing is Gina you'd have to start with a 12 inch scope to be left with 5 inch of clear aperture once all the motors, belts and gears have been fitted

Absolutely! You can get very tiny geared motors. Look at the tiny servos you can get. Of course, whether it would be much advantage is another matter My comment was very much tongue in cheek
