Sam1060
Me and my girlfriend have just been chatting and wondering if NASA or anyone ever changed the path of anything that could've destroyed earth?
x6gas
The answer is no.But there are projects scanning for, and tracking, large objects that may hit or pass close... but AFAIK there is nothing that could be done to alter the path if something was found to be on a collision course (though there is plenty of science fiction speculation). Dazzyd
It's like the scene in Armageddon when the British scientist guy said you could throw every nuke you've got at it and it'll just smile and keep on coming LOL
JamesF
Wasn't there some plan to launch a "big magnifying glass" and use it to heat an incoming object by focusing the sun onto a small spot, the idea being that the ejected material from the heated area would act like a rocket and alter its course?James
Tinker1947
The "big magnifying glass" will never work, due to the endless clouds....
sologuitarist61
Saw an interesting bit on TV some time ago. Talking about asteroids that could hit the earth, they were saying that, if found early enough, just putting a largish satellite around it could nudge it away from its predicted orbit as the small gravitational influence of the satellite would slightly move the greater bulk of the asteroid over a long period of time. Mr Q
There is one possible way...upon the news that such an object is heading towards us, if we all went out and tried to observe it, the observing gods might turn it away. Kinda like the cloud phenomena with new kits but in reverse

Scosmico
It would be a good excuse to finish with all nuc. weapons in one go.It's like the scene in Armageddon when the British scientist guy said you could throw every nuke you've got at it and it'll just smile and keep on coming LOL

JB80
Would you want to be the one to discover the comet that wiped out the human race?At least you'd be remembe........Oh wait.In a way they are changing the paths quite often of many known objects but it's more for refinement of the predictions than anything sinistre.
