M51 A test of guiding

Thought I would add a 2x barlow to a 200mm newt for this shot. Focal length was then 2000mm at f10. I wanted to see if the finder guider would manage and it doesn't seem to bad. Camera was a 314L and the colour (of sorts !) came from an earlier picture. Regards , Trevor

Thats come out pretty well Trevor, really good scale and a lot of details.

What sort of sub numbers and exposure times did you use?

Thankyou. There are 15 x 4 min subs here in mono. The colour was 12 x 4 min through a dslr. Trevor

That's good I read that it's no good using a Barlow for DSO but your image disproves that I'll give it a try myself, thanks

Very nice detail have considered using my barlow on this one as well it worked pretty good there.

Nice one, I have often thought about giving this a go on the ring nebula but have never got around to it.

Not too sure about the galaxy core diff spikes.

I'm not fond of diff spikes but I know a lot are Fortunately I don't get them with my ED80

Nice, shame about the spike in the centre of the galaxy, but nice effort and something I wanted to try with my 200mm Newt.

What Make of Barlow did you use ?

Thanks for the comments. Its the first time I've pushed the focal length with a barlow and will try again on other bright object. I may re-process and sort the spikes. Funny how opinions differ !

The barlow was a x2 Celestron ed job. Regards , Trevor

I've used Barlows for planetary and lunar but not DSO yet.

its a very nice image well done , as for the spikes its all a matter of opinion i suppose. personally i quite like spikes on stars, but not on the galaxies.

I love spikes but would avoid putting them on the galaxy itself mybe try starspikes pro two on a trail basis if your a spike fan
