Lets see some piccies..:)

Okay, everything unpacked and assembled and photographed at every stage. Which forum would be appropriate to post the running commentary and photographs in? Continuation of this thread or another thread in another forum?

This one!! Go for it.

Though my GF says that if I take photos and post them I am officially a geek. That just means she hasn't noticed I've been one since we met.

Okay, here we go....

Three boxes arrived yesterday and I had to restrain myself not to rip them open straight away. I knew I would have the house to myself all today and could devote time to the task. They are somewhat larger than my wife expected and its worth pointing out that I have no experience of putting this sort of thing together and had no real idea what to expect.

The first box. I imagined this contained the mount....

....and was proved correct!

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10999041/IMG_5455.JPG

All the bits out of the box and by now I'm getting a little worried - there's an awful lot of it to put together!

Next box. Tripod I should imagine? Correct.

Out of the box and upright. The two weights for the mount are contained in the same box.

One box left. Its either clouds or my new scope....

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10999041/IMG_5462.JPG

Phew! There's a scope in there!

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10999041/IMG_5464.JPG

Lets get the mount on the tripod...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10999041/IMG_5465.JPG

and the weights and mounting plate. Some confusion at this point because there was another mounting plate already attached to the tube rings and it wasn't clear which one I should go with but common sense ruled....

The scope came with tube rings already attached (suppose its safer to transport that way) but I had to remove them and attach them to the plate...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10999041/IMG_5469.JPG

And there we are. Most of the bits attached!

Finder scope in place and I think this one shows an ep there too. A little confusion here too as it seems SW supply both 1.25" and 2" bits for the focus tube. Forgive my confusion if I am mistaken on that.

Maplins power supply in situ and the goto guidance attached to see if it lit up or blew up...

Impressions? Well, I was pretty worried when I opened the boxes and saw the contents but it all went together beautifully and I had no real problems. I've now tidied up and hoovered up (got to keep on her good side) so the lounge looks more or less as it was before yesterdays arrivals. Except for this ginormous telescope sat in the middle of the room!

I've got lots of reading to do now to learn how to set the thing up out in the field rather than my lounge! With luck I should be ready to take it out by,oh...July? Ish?

Is it portable? Good job I am 6'4" and pretty strong so i think I'll manage okay. I intend to store the tripod and mount in their assembled state (please inform if that isn't advisable) and just take the weights off. The scope itself can live in the protective box it arrived in for a while and I'll transport to site in that same box then attach on site.

I have used Dropbox for the images and copied the public links into the 'insert link' box. As I prepare to press the 'send' button on this post only the links are showing but I expect that to change to images when I do press send. if they do I shall delete this last sentence. If they don't perhaps some kind soul can tell me what went wrong.

Oh, one last thing. I would have posted a very positive review of FLO but I do not have the necessary 50 posts to use that forum. Excellent service, excellent packaging, just four days from order to delivery, very impressed! And just £5 for p&p!

Very nice!

Though for future reference, can you confirm that that dovetail in the open mount head box was in there with the mount head? I keep saying dovetails come with mounts and nobody believes me!

Just unboxed an EQ6 and a long dovetail did indeed come in the box, and another short one came with the scope.
