M78

Hi folks,

last week we had some clear nights. So I captured some data of M78 with the TL APO 80/480 and the Moravain G2-8300 from my balcony.

Processing only with Theli and PixInsight. L 15x600s, RGB 11x600s for every channel.

It's a shame about the gradient though, do you use flats?

Yes, I make flats. And PixInsight is very strong in removing gradients. To be honest, I can`t see a gradient. At the left corner above you can see a part of the Barnards Loop. There is so much hydrogen and dust in this area...

I hope I don`t weary you folks. But I did a reprocessing today. I think it is an improvement. Colour calibration with Theli completely. The rest with PixInsight.

But you may have lost a little bit of contrast in the dark stuff. Anyway, its still brilliant!

I'm with you Coco, it's the first one for me also. I find it hard though to find a balance on large nebula as I never know how they are going to look on other people's monitors?

Excellent, Werner - this image is beautifully wide and indicates to me that I must revisit it myself with a shorter FL telescope than my reflector. Lots to feast your eyes on.

The processing of this is really difficult. There are so many possibilities. Makes me crazy... . After the feedback I got I think I will stay with number one.
