Comet C/1996 B2 (Hyakutake)

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd have a go at posting an attachement on the SGL forums.

Dusted off this photo of Hyakutake near zenith in March 1996 (you can make out Polaris in the bottom left hand corner...)

Exposure was 180 seconds onto Kodak Ultra Gold 400 using an 50mm lens on Olympus OM-10 35mm SLR (tripod mounted) on B-lock.

A lovely image, brings back memories, I was fortunate to see this coment when it was at its brightest , think it was near Acturus at the time. Was staying in a bothy called Sourlies at the end of Glen Dessary, blackest clearest sky ive seen with this comets tail visible across 2 thirds of the sky.

Nice photo taken back in the day of 'real film'......

I remember Hyakutake well- fantastic bright comet, huge tail and well positioned for us Northern Hemisphere observers.

Here's on off my efforts- can't remember the exact details but probably 200mm lens, 5 mins exposure Ektachrome 400. Happy days!
