I've had all the paints for a couple of days but no time to actually get it painted. However I've just made up a hanging "rotisserie" type of affair this afternoon in the workshop so I can rotate the tube while painting so I can get a really even coverage. Essential when working with a translucent candy paint. So I'm ready to start painting tomorrow. All 11 or 12 coats should be done by the afternoon and then left to harden.

Remembered to get a respirator mask that will filter out the paint fumes and other nasties while painting.

Well the tube has been painted with the Candy Apple Red and clear coat. Came out well with a nice even colour. ;)

Just needs to be left to harden properly and then I'll decide if it can just be buffed up or will need flatting with extra fine wet&dry before spaying a couple more coats of the 2 pack clear to get the finish I want.

Now to paint the countercell in black and polish and clear coat the brass dew-shield.

Iits nerve wracking isnt it getting the 1st coat on without runs, the spit works perfectly. I have used this method for painting my 4" F15 tube and also lacquering 3" brass scopes both brush and spray.

What you using to clear coat the brass? I use silver / brass lacquer its more hard wearing than auto lacquer but trickier to apply.

Actually the paint I used went on very well and no problem with any drips. I got it from a specialist custom paint supplier. Much higher quality than the Halfords type stuff. I like the result. You can just make out the metallic silver base coat through the translucent red, the paint has real depth to it. :)

I'll be using Rylard brass lacquer for the brass.

Other commitments have kept me out of the workshop for over a week :) but at least that's given the paint time to properly harden and it's now ready for final assembly, and as soon as the last of the brass thumbscrews and thumbnuts arrive it'll be ready to be photographed, so not much longer now. :icon_salut:
