Sh2-129 accidentally!

I was really looking for the Claw nebula but chanced on this, sometimes known as The Flying Bat (by people with little knowledge of bats!) and decided to stick with it. It's huge - this was with the Baby Q reduced to 328mm FL at f3.9 - and is found a little NW of the Elephant Trunk. The sky was ultra clear but the seeing terrible, hence the decision to work in a short FL. Despite this the iOptron IEQ45 stayed below a tenth of a pixel on both axes for all 18x15mn subs so it was a good night. I'll get a bit of star colour tonight, I hope, but there won't be much other signal.

another fantastic pic olly! your pics do amaze me quite often, and id not hered of the flying bat before, althrough to me it does look like a seagull just hovering..... but it could be my eyes:P

Facinating image Olly, wouldn't know where to start looking for that one! The bat at the bottom looks more like a handlebar moustache to me!

The full image outs me in mind of a firey phoenix reminiscent of the one from the opening titles of that epic 80's kids cartoon Battle of the Planets!
