This uninspiring blob is venus tonight at dusk,trouble is, I don't know if there is any detail to capture,If anybody has an image they can post, it would help me to have some idea of what I am supposed to be doing,

I've read that if you get any detail, then you did something wrong. You can get phases like the moon, but that's your lot.

Blob? that's no blob, it's Venus, looking like it always looks, uninspiring. No reflection on your pic. Frank, Venus is never a pretty sight either visually or off a chip. You did well to get her sharp. Much much better is your Saturn, bags of detail.

Cresent phases are about all you see with Venus

Venus works best as a widefield target with something else in the view

I spent ages snapping Venus a few night back and found that it's a tricky beast

Slightest over exposure and you get the blob but with a lot of tweaking of settings

you can get a sense of the phase of Venus.
