Interests
Life, astronomy, happiness. Nights under a crystal clear sky. A decent pint. A professional astronomer by choice, an amateur astronomer since I was knee-high to a tripod. Blame Patrick Moore for my life choice. An inspiration. Now where did I put that 3mm eyepiece…?

Truly amazing. Can I use the image in my lectures please?

Hello Paul, I admit it’s amazing. But expensive. There is the less fancy and cheaper Vespera, but with equally outstanding results. If I can achieve these results from a heavily polluted sky, just imagine what you could get in a dark-sky location! cheers! Mike

OK, here is my contribution to this thread. What with the 1st decent night in ages (mist, fog, clouds, smoke, sea haze, etc., etc..) I thought I’d trundle out the STELLINA for a few hours. Workd well, not brilliant seeing, and after a few ours, a faint, but perceptible orange cast to the sky became apparent. I’ve posted some of the images I acquired in the deep sky thread: M96, M13, NGC6888. you can see the amount of light I have to put up with. Roll on retirement, and moving to a darker place🥳

Thanks, but whenever I move house/flat they’re a [removed word] to pack, but I’m loathe to get rid of them. Some have been with me nearly most of my life, and they’re very good friends, so to speak.

Over 50 years worth of life, and finishing with 2 of my priceless possession… and finally, a 1st edition, that I found in a dispose bin in my local library, and when I met the great man, he was kind enough to sign it. A wonderful moment.

Incredible and beautiful. I especially like the jet at lower right. It seems to reach almost to the centre WD. Well done mate!

First light with STELLINA solar filter. No post-processing.

Here’s another attempt last night. Alas, as usual, sky got cloudy, moon had an effect, and brewery across road had party with lights, half way through the session 😡.But I think it is better than previous image. The 2nd image is annotated with HII regions and galaxies. Upon examining image in detail I found Galaxy PGC 49919, at a distance of ~ 103 million ly, at magnitude 14. Apparently it’s receding at 0.6% speed of light. Amazing🤪. 4220s at 10s subs.
