  1. ISO 1600 is supposed to be the sweet spot for that camera. However I'd try with 800 as well and compare. As mentioned, depends on the target: the brighter the shorter. I would go from 30s to 180s depending on the brightness. Always preventing star trails. As many as possible. More integration time = higher SNR = less noise = better images. As stated by @ollypenrice, several days, even weeks, for a single target. And clear nights, of course. Be sure you book them.
  2. All of the above plus don't forget to tight the clutches before using the GOTO. Happened a few times. To a friend of mine. Not to me. Never again. 🙈

    G'Day!

    Hi and welcome to SGL.
  5. Hi @alacant First aim at this beautiful target. I only managed 100 min of 120sec subs @ ISO800 with my recently astromodded 600D. Too noisy because of the presence of Luna and the low integration time. Will keep on trying.

    Hi to all

Hi and welcome to the Lounge.
  9. I do the same: laptop to desktop via TeamViewer. If you need a USB hub to connect gear->laptop, use a powered one. Laptop’s batteries don’t like extreme cold, so try to keep them warm or connected to the power grid.
  10. Welcome to SGL, @DivingRhino As this hobby is basically money-driven, specially AP, it would be interesting to know the budget you have available. As mentioned, a tracking mount along with your DSLRs could be a good starting point. Bear in mind that long FL scopes would require a setup guiding capable (more gear more expensive). I would take a look at this post (full of unguided DSO astrophotography examples) and see what equipment people there use.
  11. The green dial is of no use to me. What you have to bear in mind is that the 12:00 position is at the top of the reticle (relative to the horizontal ground) regardless the position of its 0 position. Normally, polar scope reticles are not 0 - 12:00 aligned from factory, and I wouldn’t bother fixing it. You can turn the RA axis until 0 is at the top (checking the horizontal movement of Polaris when turning AZ knobs) and then placing the star in the right place of the reticle. Another way could be adding/subtracting the difference when the CW bar is leveled (2 hours in your case) when positioning Polaris in the reticle. HTH

    Hi All

    Welcome to SGL.
  13. Welcome to the Lounge, Geremia!
  14. Very convenient. There are cheaper alternatives: laptop, r-pi… Can go for Asiair route if money is not a problem. I don’t know how it works with DSLRs though.

    Hi all!

    Welcome to the Lounge!
  16. What about the Sky-Watcher CC? Designed for same brand newts. I went for the MPCC though, mainly for its slightly lower price. I read a lot of analysis and comparisons and those two were the candidates for a reasonable price.
  17. Hi and welcome to SGL, best place to get the advice you might need.
