  1. Depends on the EP used, thats all NV is. 😀 Also going from a C11 to a 24” dob will give just over one magnitude is what an observer can see, other ways of achieving more without hanging of a ladder.
  2. With all of the contrast provided by an LZOS 5" I have a life time of objects to observe, but.... As discussed a C11 + a NV device is going to be cheaper then a 24" DOB and don't need to wait for it to cool down. Only was to fight aperture is mega contrast provided by NV.
  3. My brother in law lives just south of Builth Wells, heart of Wales. It's SQM 21.8, tempted to take a 4" there and see what whats possible. As usual its what's packable into the car. How does altitude (above sea level) affect seeing, imagine it helps????
  4. C14 which might fit on the AZ100 or maybe a 16" DOB that @jetstream talked you into? He is nagging me too...
  5. Sure, lots of BV users are positive on this EP, e.g. denis007dl on CN. Waiting for noisejammer on CN to comeback from the desert and finish his review on this EP before making a decision.
  6. Very good report Mark! What was the SQM in Cley? Amazing how much difference a dark sky can make! Who needs to a drag out a 16" DOB when you have NV. 😀
  7. I'm wondering if it's a C11, make use of the recent move to dark skies and balance up the AZ100.
  8. I use one of these Vanguard cases: https://www.vanguardworld.co.uk/products/supreme-46d you can buy the internal case separately (£70) and to be honest if you don't go to dark sites thats all you need.
  9. Thats meant to be a great EP, however some people complain about the EoFB, while others do not. And then they compare it to a Doctor or Nikon HW. Reading around this EP seems to be on it's own as the only EP's to compare it to are unicorns or 2.5-3x the price. Only downside is the weight....
  10. Ok, so maybe just the high power ones to figure out. Going to wait for noisejammer to finish his review of the 12.5 HI-FW, heavy however for the price could be very good.
  11. I'm short sighted, no eyeglasses required. Presume the Panoptic would be the pick?
  12. vs 17.5 mm Morpheus I'll have a look at the difference. Thanks
  13. I've recently acquired a MaxBright II BV. I'm planning to use it in an LZOS 130/F6 scope with a FT3545 focuser, so hope fully weight will not be an issue or focus range. The AG tube is 4 cm shorter than the standard KUO tube to help with BV usage. I have 24 mm UFF for wide field and given the focus range no GPC is required. I would like to add two more sets of EP's in the 17.5 mm and 10 mm range. I realise to get higher magnifications a GPC will be required, the 2.6 GPC has been suggested. For the 17.5 mm range Baader Morpheus look an obvious choice, any others I could look at. Tele Vue spring to mind? In the higher magnification range either 10 mm APM UFF or 9 mm Takahashi Abbe EP's Any others worth consideration? Thanks, Martin
  14. Only just…. Mirror diagonal shows more of Jupiters belts than prism.
  15. Wobbly with my 5” too. However acclimating quicker tonight. Seeing better, however 4 mm TOE gives best views so far, need to move country or maybe just county to get a better view.
  16. There is also a GRS transit tomorrow at 22.47:05 (8 Sep), shame about the weather other wise ideal viewing height.
  17. What EP's are working for you? I have a pair of 24 mm UFF, need some more to support higher magnifications. Which GPC's have you got? Also F6 have you got an Q extender for you Takahashi, it's just optics, reportedly works in an AP130GTX so if you have one give it a go...
  18. Thanks to @Space Hopper for the MaxBright II, currently unobtainable. Helped fund your Tv eyepiece : 35mm Panoptic? 😉
  19. The AG version does not have a handle, mine does. It's the same standard handle as the found on the KUO tube. I asked around the time the rings where being designed to be built by Starlight for a handle to be fitted. Rupert's reasoning for no handle was to keep the weight down. But makes sense for the two flavours to share components. Since this is the case I suspect the rings are the same position on the tube as the KUO tube version. As far as retracting, it does not fully, it's long, but fully retracted there is some 13 cm of dew shield before the lens cell. The inner width of the rings is around 19.7 cm's. However it fits in its Stellarvue case and is shorter them my SD103S: I have less Astro budget spent. I ordered before Christmas and the price increases which sent FT prices higher and all the other parts.
  20. Congratulations! Yes, they are good Stu. On Jupiter I'm finding the same as you, needs to cool down for around 30-60 minutes. Around 10.30 -> 11 pm I get the best views. The Baader mirror diagonal is giving more detail on Jupiter belts then the Baader BBHS prism diagonal, using a 4 mm TOE or 3.6 mm HR EP. Interested in what you find as the best setup with the AZ100. Moved location at SQM is around 20.85 which for DSO work the 5" will show a lot more. For wide field I'd like a mount I can sweep the sky with using a BV. What's the length of you Losmandy bar, I find I have more then enough to balance my scope on its mount. Same time the FT is great ballast and the scope might be a little more balanced to start off with? Enjoy Martin
  21. Last I heard was October earliest.
  22. I think they're will always to comparisons from one mount to another. This one posted here looks like a fit to the rumoured/wanted so called AZ50 mount, AZ100 smaller version. Cannot see a hard and fast rule.
  23. I always like to ask and good to hear positive. There is a religious SCT thread going on CN at the moment around SCT quality control. Either a 9.25 EDGE or 210 Mewlon once the stock sorts itself out to add to the collection in the future…
  24. From globulars equipment list: 8" EdgeHD Aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain F/10.6 | ~20.4 mag/arcsec
  25. Why the EDGE over a stock C8. Ability to add fans to cool down or not really an issue?
