  1. Very bright for me too. Skywatcher Explorer 150P and vixen 6mm eyepiece. However it was my first time looking. I found Saturn particularly good though. Finished with moon which as a newcomer was staggering. Highlights were a neighbours 4 year old saying she saw a face on the moon going to sleep. 2 of the least likely candidates local teenage lads asked to look. Although their comments were full of expletives they were very impressed.
  2. From what I could gather most people say it's ok for visual but not photography. However on the basis of money being tight I got the 150p on EQ3 have ordered motors and intend having a go with my dslr. I won't be the first look around and others have had good results. Not everyone can afford expensive kit and fair play I'm going to have to accept my results won't be spectacular. But then again they will only have to please me my friends and family and I'll have fun trying
  3. I just got the Vixen NPL 6mm for my 150 skywatcher Explorer ( mainly due to it being in stock ) the improvements over the 10 mm skywatcher stock is huge for £38 . Eye relief is low but manageable.
  4. So it's you sending the clouds over the Severn to Gloucestershire!
  5. Have you checked the laser is accurate? A laser told me my 5 inch was spot on .A Cheshire told a different story. Sure enough on checking the laser was out. Not by much but enough to have me chasing my tail collimating
  6. 1st time with skywatcher Explorer 150P on EQ3. I'm impressed. Band of Jupiter and 4 moons beautifully clear. Started with stock eyepiece 25 then 10. The 10 is odd as wouldn't focus without moving it up in focus tube. I bought a 6mm vixen NPL 6mm that gave much better clarity and contrast. It was fun moving to Saturn as I'm still getting my head around the mirrored image and moving the scope the right way ! However the rings were beautifully clear. Sadly cloud came over and halted proceedings. I also noticed both clutches slipped a bit so used the excellent guide hear suspecting grease on the spindles . Sure enough it was pretty messy so cleaned and relubed with lithium mountain bike grease. Popped some on both worm drives too. I've got enhanced motors on order which I'm looking forward to getting as I won't have to wait for things to settle after touching slow motion controls . Can't wait to get out again.
  7. Just done my 150P f5 skywatcher. Discovered the laser that came with it was way out. I trust my eyes and a Cheshire. To be honest I didn't find it difficult. ( will build a jig for the laser and get it aligned)
  8. Canon t ring . And a Cheshire courtesy of FLO. ( discovered my eyes are far better than a poorly aligned laser) that came w the telescope.
  9. Enjoy. Planning my first outing tonight
  10. Gore windstopper cycling could help. Or look on cycling websites as some are touch screen compatible. Failing that thin neoprene Kayaking gloves may work
  11. My first experience using you and a positive one. Multiple items ordered some not in stock. Agreed to split order so I didn't have to wait
  12. Inspirational......sadly no opportunity to get out since purchasing my telescope but forecast is improving.
  13. It's true. Picked my telescope up today and the forecast is dreadful.

    I'm New Here

Welcome from a fellow novice. I'd say don't discount the second hand market. I've just got £400 worth of equipment half price. A chap just lost interest.
  15. It's a bit churlish to be critical on a site I've just joined and I guess it happens on a site that's been active for so long. But links on older posts often lead nowhere. On a positive note my browsing stopped me getting that bargain 200pds that was undermounted and would have been a pain to store and move . I've discovered software and apps to use before investing unwisely. I have realistic expectations and can even explain why Mars is so good at the moment. The search function works very well in researching and members reviews have led me to what I think is going to be a wise choice. 150P on EQ3 2.
  16. I use the Hahnel Captur. It's wirelessly controlled so once set up no potential shakes. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Handy for non astrophotography too.
  17. Hi, hi. Neowise has a lot to answer for. After trying Milky Way and wide field landscapes it's time for a telescope. I pick up a skywatcher 150P on EQ3 on Friday and can't wait. I've been browsing the site for some time. And have joined my local society.Luckily have good viewing conditions nearby. Looking forward to learning more from what appears to be the best forum I could find. Picture is recent single exposure eos 5d mk2. Tokina 16mm to 28 f2.8 30 sec iso 3200 from Stinchcombe Cotswolds
