  1. I hope one night to see an elliptical galaxy. They have always fascinated me as older DSOs further back in time still - nearer the beginning of our Universe. And that is one of the wonders of naked eye observing to me, looking at an image that has reached us projected by an object which may no longer exist or be as we see it today.
  2. I notice curved field effect in binoculars a lot. In fact it (with eye relief) is deal maker or breaker when looking at new ones. With cyclops using my good eye, it's not bothered me.
  3. Not noticed a curved field as such. I notice effects on smaller objects more than viewscapes though. Is a curved field most apparent when panning?
  4. I have a TV 55mm Plossl as finder ep mainly. Did not know a 50LV made. Considering the 41 though.
  5. Didn't. But as I also have a 35mm Panoptic, surely that must be better?! I would like to try a 31mm Nagler as it's eye relief is 19mm. Need a store with it in stock.
  6. Looks little used. More expensive than my 15mm was. Had I not got a TV 32mm Plossl, I would buy a 30 LV too.
  7. Main Astro bins. Fujinons 16x70 could be sold to fund Helios 20x100s.
  8. This cost about £35 on ebay. I have a 10mm and 6mm already. 20mm in the mail. With my 32mm TV Plossl, they are my travel kit, all good eye relief and fit in a flak vest's pockets.
  9. Only dust and fluff. Always in the air with pets around!
  10. Thank you Paz. For comparison this is the original LV.
  11. Shifted to a 40mm LV wish, a fl I don't own, than can be Barlowed to a 20, albeit with narrow field. John (as you know) eye relief is my #1 consideration. How much er is lost on current LVs when the eye cups are screwed fully down, compared to the up-or-down folding cups of original LVs? My 10 and 6 allow whole fov with glasses and less exact eye placement to achieve that. 32mm is covered by the excellent TV Plossl, a LV 40mm 31.7mm would complete my travelling set and fit in an ep bandolier.
  12. Wish I kept my 8" back along, but moved to a smaller house at the time so went 8" SCT.
  13. Hope it was a great holiday! I am still wanting a modern 20-ish ep, but trapped in the dream v reality spiral!
  14. Thinking about the 20mm, but have an Erfle of same fl. Would the SLV be signifigantly better?
  15. www.darkstartelescopes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/dark-star-html?m=1 Mine is hammerite blue
  16. I have a Dark Star (remember them?) 12" which when I moved house became less useable as street and neighbours' lighting made moving it around necessary and handling precarious. Still have it & dream of a dark site of my own. Bought a C8 to replace it about 20 years ago, but there is no replacement for displacement! Much more portable though. Yesterday I bought a 10" F5 1270mm Bresser Messier dob which I hope will be my new DSO eye to the sky, due tomorrow (wanted to stay with solid tubes. ?
