  1. Sorry too far to help, north Cornwall, hopefully someone more local can help out, good luck😀
  2. Hi and welcome, Basic advice, think about what you wish to look at, where you are going to use the scope e.g. garden, travel to a darker site etc. Occasional viewing for short periods? Dobsonian reflectors are best bang for buck, but you need to collimate (align mirrors) includes the mount though Goto's push the cost up and although I have one too, I found pushing a dob around the sky and learning to star hop as part of the fun My 200 Dob has been awesome, but it's not the lightest, my 100P is a great first scope and still use it but in hindsight would have gone for a 130mm I only observe though and do no photography, hope some help
  3. Might just be me struggling😂 hope you have a successful night!
  4. I typically can only just pick out two of the three with my 200 dob with averted vision
  5. Bit windy here and freezing to be honest but wanted to give the az-gti mount a quick try out So set up - easy, levelled the tripod, switched on mount, located wifi address in phone settings, opened synscan app and pressed connect, no problems connecting! Next chose brightest star alignment and selected Venus, then asked to select a second so picked Sirius Told to manually centre Venus, and this is the first really good thing I like about this mount, you can unlock and use the mount completely manually without power, great when you just want to go old school star hopping or the batteries go (I have a power pack but thought I would see how it fairs on 8xAA batteries) Set Venus in centre of view, pressed ok and off it slewed to Sirius (not forgetting to have loosely tightened the lock screws - first tip, don't over tighten) Sirius appeared slightly off centre so followed request to manually centre, achieved easily with the app directional buttons having reduced the slew speed accordingly And that is about it for set up, decided to pick on some easy targets just to see how accurate things were, Castor, Pollux, Procyon, Capella, Rigel all came in to view with only slight alignment needed So in essence I have to say I'm pretty impressed, easy to set up and not a bad app - just need a bit more of a still breeze rather than the windy chill off the sea!
  6. Looking for recommendations on fairly easy double stars to go after as a starting way of exploring these, few caveats though Interested in beauty not necessarily the thrill of a split challenge Prefer S to W regions as viewing better but can go N Open to extending beyond Winter / Spring for a future to do Would appreciate if suggestion of best of my scopes also, if I'm ever able to travel through work again I often take my 100P away with me as a goto quick set up so any that are good through that would be appreciated Thanks all
  7. I presently have a 200P but looking to move up to a 300P flex, great to hear it's still moveable 😀
  8. Feel for you but Auriga will be there in future years, need to make sure we are too, all in this together
  9. All scopes must have been in the same place😀 love the Auriga clusters too
  10. I've got these on order, really pleased now I've read your review, in the UK though it was £64.99 in hard cover
  11. Thanks for info, for the 127 I think I would stick to 1.25"
  12. Noticed the williams optics prism on the Mak127, could you let me know which model it is and did you find it a noticeable upgrade?
  13. I've added a digital inclinometer and find that useful, need to add a setting circle, will probably save the goto money and just go bigger diameter 😂 cheers for the guidance!
  14. Folks, quick question, looking at getting a skywatcher dobsonian with goto but I also like just manually scanning the skies old school, can anyone confirm that you can use this type of scope without the sync scan and simply push it around the night sky, thanks
  15. Hello from Newquay! And welcome to SGL, there's also a club for Devon & Cornwall you can join
