  1. More testing with the 130: The field is now 97% useable, just a wee tweak needed to bring one corner back after i adjusted another.
  2. Its clear! So let us rock and/or roll!

  3. Another link for the pot, I got all my screws, drills and taps from Modelfixings. Worked a treat http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/
  4. All parts have now arrived for the focuser mod, have measured everything and all is looking good.

  5. Apologies for the gap since last posting, but here is a fresh crop for the 130 imaging thread: Original thread here: http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/214713-galaxy-hunting-with-the-130pds-bonus-cygnus/
  6. guiding tonite... but its a bit windy!

  7. Good session, good data, and lots of it! Hoping for more tonight.

  8. In need of a stiff drink.. just had my first *perfect* sub from the 130pds.

  9. The solution to the balance issue for me was a strap-on leg weight, it adds 500g to the backend and just about balances the whole rig out.
  10. I think the open bottom design with these telescopes is to aid cooling, but with CCD imaging being more demanding and the likelyhood that you are chasing very dim targets means that the gradients caused by this design come into play when youre trying to sort out your nebulosity from your gradient(s). Good luck with the Quattro, it would be interesting to see whether you get a flat field out of the box (or with minumum tweaking).
  11. Ive been covering up my bottom (of the newt!) ever since I had the 130 (and the 150 previously). If you have enough ambient light at your imaging location, it will leak in through the bottom of the tube and give you a gradient. It seems all the PDS range have this "open bottom" design, but its easy enough to make a cover. A bit of circular card with notches cut out for access to the collimation screws, and just held on with a bit of tape - took all of 2min to make, saves much hassle. Edit: Same applies if you have a manual filter wheel - make a cover for it, or a drawstring bag.
  12. Tent up, Kettle on, waiting for clear skies

Looks like my rant was heard! Now a blue(ish) sky, not great - but perhaps good enough for last minute testing before packing up the gear for SGL9.

  14. Welcome to the club With luck, you wont need to collimate out of the box - but no harm in checking.
  15. Man-flu...... urgghhh

Cheers! Hope to get over this by SGL9

  16. Another blast from the 130:
  17. Ive got a couple more pics in the pipeline (using the new 2" filters), just need to take some calibration frames before I process the data - hopefully later this afternoon.
  18. All systems go - now doing some pre-SGL9 testing. The 130pds and 383L+ are much happier with 2" filters.

  19. 2" filters rock!

      Ohhh yes :)

New possibilities have opened up, just waiting for an adaptor from TS. Spacing is over for the SWCC (58mm), the new adaptor should bring that down to about 55.5mm.

  20. I will be bringing the 130 along to SGL9, so if anyone wants a look at how its set up - just pop over and have a peek (thats assuming its not raining!)
  21. All the gear I use is in my sig, but basically its the 130pds (modified), Atik 383L+ (full frame CCD) and the NEQ6 (guided). Post processing is a mixture of DSS (calibration), Maxim (stacking and filtering), then Photoshop (for developing the image). Could go into more detail, but gotta get to work now!
  22. Might as well be cloudy given the sky quality tonight, total soup!
