  1. @axle01 is there a trick for removing that round tin cover without damaging it? I can think of using a small screwdriver to lever it out, but am a bit worried. I've got a couple of clamps in stock, but I fear I might have the same problem with the position of the holes as you.
  2. Now _that's_ a useful accessory, Gina!
  3. Hand controller for the SW AZ GTi. Whilst wifi control via my iPhone works well, this gives me more flexibility. Plus Lynx cable to connect to mount and power lead to connect to Tracer battery.
  4. Now this is a review I'm really going to enjoy reading. The bins look amazing!
  5. Actually, John, I think you'd be an excellent person to write a book given your experience with so many types of telescope and different observing targets. You really should think about it seriously.
  6. Indeed there is no minimum "useful" size limit. The 3-inch refractor/6-inch reflector concept was something Patrick More promoted. There was some sense in in though. I couldn't aspire to one when I was a lad, but I made great use of my 60 mm Tasco refractor. Interestingly, in his "Starlight Nights", the great observer Leslie Peltier relates that when he was going to join the AAVSO in 1918 it had a minimum size telescope requirement of 3-inch. He was disappointed as his was only 2-inches. But when he filled in the application form, his letter 2 had an extra curlicule, making it look like a 3. He was in! And he became one of the most prolific variable star observers as well as discovering many comets.
  7. Orbit orrery - was reduced to a fiver by Blackwells. Useful for outreach work with Scout groups.
  8. When I first saw this, Stu, I thought it was to stop you slipping over during your trip to Finland!
  9. Thanks Steve. Is it still OK to apply the first coat with a brush?
  10. This is amazing @Steve 1962 did you polish it before applying? How did you apply: by brush?
  11. I love my Celestron C9.25, which I use instead of my Takahashi FS102 when I need a bit more light grasp. With 2-inch eyepieces it gives wonderful views of deep sky objects. It also gives very decent high mag views of planets. I sometimes take it to star parties as the OTA is easy to transport by car; a bit easier to handle than a 10-inch Dob at least that's what I wound. Highly recommended.
  12. Well, he's certainly a psychiatrist....
  13. Time will tell Alan. I must say I love the NZ, especially for travelling, but I want to see how a well corrected fixed FL eyepiece will compare. I'm still trying to ascertain if it's possible to have too many eyepieces ?
  14. Vixen HR 2.4 mm eyepiece has been delivered. Sister (brother?) to the HR 3.4 mm I already have.
  15. Brilliant! William and Michael are great guys. I hope you will be able to get lots of mutual meteor events with other NEMETODE observers. By the way, the BAA meets in Armagh Sept 6-9. Maybe some NEMETODE members going to that.
  16. Welcome to NEMETODE! I've been a member for 5 years. William lives just down the road from me.
  17. Crikey, I knew these Tele Vue eyepieces were expensive, but sorry to hear you had to go to such lengths to get hold of one, Alan!
  18. I thought it was actually the new baby blue Tak livery ?
  19. Berlebach adapter to allow my AZ GTi to be mounted on an EQ5 tripod, which is sturdier than the one supplied (but much heavier of course!).
