  1. Just along the road from me. It should be fairly dark, but it's a bit close to the LP of Bridport.
  2. As far as slightly more "out there" images are concerned, I'm debating whether to "have a go at" Cass A, which will fit nicely on the SX 694 on the ODK 12. It's just a matter of finding a suitable clear filter to go with my Astrodons for focusing. I still have my HCG project on the go. And may try to image the "Cosmic Horseshoe" in LRGB. Too many targets, too few clear nights.
  3. That's great news, but why does the path need to be illuminated? Don't people there have torches? Seriously, there are no streetlights here, I think the nearest are about 4-5 miles away, when people go out at night they carry torches.
  4. I have a warm white LED string around my RoR for work with the roof closed and a deep red string just over the area where the keyboard and monitor sit if I need to do anything local at night, though during imaging I will be connecting remotely.
  5. No, you're confusing Beagle 2 with the NASA Mars reconnaissance probe that went careering off into space due to stupid use of imperialistic measurements by one of the sub contractors. Beagle 2 landed safely on Mars (And was photographed later) but one of the "petals" failed to open, blocking the solar panels and the antenna, so communications were lost.
  6. I think the accepted term is "lithobraking" 😂.
  7. Imaging doesn't have to preclude observing. Once my imaging sequence is up and running I will frequently go out with my 10 X 50s to look around. I have some grab and go kit that I should be making more use of, though it's not the primary focus of my astronomy.
  8. I have disagree that AN only caters for the imagers. Look at the monthly sky guide, and it's full of "how to gawp at, sorry, observe it", nothing at all about "how to image it", although I remember, back in the day that at least the object of the month had a "how to image it" section. It's been getting to the point of my questioning my subscription.
  9. Yes, it's just a touch out, but I've found that "just a touch" can make the difference between nice sharp stars and a soft bloat.
  10. Yes, I thought it was a good episode, the highlight being Dr Becky. I wonder if we'll be seeing more of her on S@N?
  11. First up, full disclosure: I am pretty much 100% imaging. I often read posts by the visual astronomers talking about the "thrill of the chase" when hunting down faint fuzzies which are only a fuzzy grey, but for me (And, I suspect, a lot of imagers) the "thrill of the chase" comes after the data is on the computer, calibrated and stacked, and trying to tease out and reveal some faint tidal tails around interacting galaxies that might be barely above the background, or diffuse nebulosity that is just barely there.
  12. UFO / UAP could be these guys doing something practical at last.
  13. Yep, I found it watchable too. Will be watching part 2.
  14. I think the vignetting would be far too extreme for flats to correct. But try it and see.
  15. Looking at the ad, he's including an LRGB filter set, so even more of a no-brainer.
  16. Something like the Musha Jump Drive? Gotta love AstreronX. Mad as a box of frogs but entertaining, provided you don't take them too seriously!
  17. I won't believe it's aliens until I see demonstrably alien technology and / or equally non terrestrial remains.
  18. I measured the clear aperture of my Baader 1.25" filters at 28 mm, so too small. I would seriously consider going to 36 mm unmounted if you can.
  19. I duuno... Had another play with this through PI and AA8. SCNR in PI, then DDP, residual magenta removal, and curves in AA8 Still not happy.
  20. Thanks for taking the time and trouble over this. I'm going to take a pause, have a think, and come back with fresh eyes.
  21. Hmm... I may have left too much green in the image when I was taking it out as I wanted to avoid sending it too red. I may have another go. I'll have a go with ABE to see how much vignetting there still is, I thought the Flats would have taken care of that. I ran NoiseX but kept the level to 60% as I didn't want the background to go too "plasticky".
