  1. What really gets me with your picture, Olly, is that beautiful wall in the background... I can feel it's warmth emanating from my screen. Looking out of my window, it's another damp, 'colder than average at this time of year', English day. The SQM looks interesting too, but what is the lowest it can register? My skies might manage double digits on a really good night!
  2. A clear, dark sky, at long last!

      Great here too.

  3. It's pretending to be a clear night out there... All set up and guiding, but hazy subs rolling in. Not funny :-(

  4. It's very clear and it seems like pretty good seeing. Oh yes, at last! GRS has just started its transit... Happy viewing / imaging all.

  5. Everybody has said it all already, but I had to add my bit as this really does deserve a massive virtual pat on the back to both of you. That is some dedication to an area of sky and what a stunning result. I think I will allow myself to use the word AWESOME! Good luck with doing something with the image, I look forward to hearing how you progress and where we can all see the final 'life size' print! That will give hours of pleasure. Basically, staring at this image is better than standing outside and staring at the real thing!
  6. I am confused by the forecasts. They all say cloudy, yet its clear. I missed yesterday night because I believed the forecast. So, do I ignore the forecast and set up tonight and hope it stays clear. Do I feel lucky....?!

I dont bother with forcasts now whatsoever they are so often wrong i dont know why they even bother, wish I could get paid to get it wrong 90% of the time....... Cloud sensor and IR satellite gives a far better insight into where its going

Earl, I listened to your advice and just set up anyway. It's still clear out there. Not the best seeing, but I have been able to fiddle about a bit and get the framing sorted for my next project. Fingers crossed for some crisp clear dark skies soon...

  7. Argh, it's cold out there. Been doing some Jupiter captures for an hour, had to come in to warm up a bit. How do visual folk survive?!

Hopefully... It's all processing now. I was getting about 65fps, so fingers crossed. I was also trying out my new powermate..... I knew I wouldn't hold out long!

Thermals including socks and thinsulate balaclava and woolly hat and astrogloves (can seriously recommend these). We observers are made of tough stuff:)

  8. 18 months in and I've just discovered you can batch process in AS!2... Doh!

  9. Imaging the rosette with all that moon out there. I am using an Ha filter, but I must be desperate to try such things!!

  10. I cannot believe how frustrating this weather is.... :-((

Same here, I'd be out every night if I was able!

  13. Oh happy nights, it's clear and dark and wind free. Fingers crossed for some successful subs!

  14. Set up & guiding, trying to catch me a Crab... Not convinced of the seeing quality though...

Have a feeling that I'm just silly - seeing is fine, my focus was out... Next sub on its way. Fingers crossed this time!

  15. Clear skies forecast for Tuesday, come on! I will be rushing home from my afternoon enjoying a Driver Awareness Course to get outside...!

  16. I got what I wanted for Christmas - a clear sky! Hope you are enjoying the night wherever you are!

  17. Happy Christmas everyone!

  18. So, it appears that the clouds, wind and general typical rubbish weather are on their way back again tonight. Big shame, I really enjoyed last night's clear skies, and I'm now stuck 1/3 of the way through my M42 project... :-(

  19. Just upgraded the focuser on my EdgeHD 800 to a Starlight Instruments Feathertouch and, oh look, it's pouring down with a howling gale out there, no surprise that I will have to wait to test it out.....,

Blowing a gale here too, new goodies waiting to be used also!

I have one on my Edge 8 as well! One of the best upgrades I have done :)

  20. Well, I was doing some astrophotography, but now I'm just imaging haze... Dammit!

  21. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em - planetary cam now on the C8 and looking forward to a bit of Moon and maybe some Jupiter...

      Luke

Hoping to get out with my 8 inch SCT for some lunar imaging too, so much fun with the SCT! :D Maybe some Jupiter too. Have fun!

Enjoy the crisp freezing winter sky! I've done my moon mosaic and called it a night. Work tomorrow means that Jupiter will have to wait for another night. Hopefully Monday...

  22. So, Met Office says 'clear' and Clear Outside says 'cloudy' - I go with Met Office forecast, but Clear Outside has got it right... Damn! I know what will happen too, as son as I pack everything away - yes, you know too!

    1. Uranium235

      Uranium235

Ive not gone out tonight, there is a massive lunar halo here.... to me, that says "dont bother son!".

And surprise, surprise... the next clear night will be a full moon!

How frustrating?! It was clear-ish earlier and I managed to get the C8 back on the mount and checked my PA. Amazingly it is still very good, despite the mount sitting out there in the weather for months now and with the children kicking balls about in the garden and certainly hitting it every now and again! Now contemplating how long to give it before giving up.......

  23. Many Clouds wins the big race at Newbury today... Surely I should have picked that one out!!!

  24. Can't decide if it's a go or no go out there tonight...

    1. PhotoGav

      PhotoGav

      It was a no go....

  25. 10 hours of subs last night - oh yeah baby! Hoping for another sesh tonight...
