Hello all. Any feedback on buying and using the Rowan “handle”. I’ve not gone for it so far as using the scope to move the mount around. Worthwhile addition ?? TIA. John

Small Alt az mount for my ST80 - suggestions.
Telescope40 replied to Telescope40's topic in Discussions - Mounts
Hello @Pixies Er, yes. Motor on an alt AZ not a good plan. What a bozo. Should have been thinking a small EQ mount really!!! A small EQ would be a better option I guess now you pointed out the error in my OP. EQ1/2 should be more than sufficient ??? John -
Hello all. Been mulling over a small alt az mount purely for my Orion ST 80. I have a nice photo tripod already to hand and looking which way to go. Would like some slo mo controls. Maybe add a RA motor in the future and work on a budget of say £100 max for now. More than happy with a bit of 2nd hand kit. Cant see any use on paying more but someone may show the error of my ways ATM. Suggestions very welcome. John

Can’t see a “ wee donkey”. LOL. Appreciate the update guys. John

Hello. Have you got the scope on the correct side of the mount. I had similar issues. I always used north align in alt AZ mode. Scope was on the wrong side !! The scope tube points north meaning the if you look at the buttons you are looking west. needs to be as this stock photo I’m pretty sure. John

Hello Stephen. I have a couple of GPC’s in use atm. Working nicely but - Is this what you are suggesting in your post ?? It would give me further options I guess and hopefully lower power views as the GPC could be left to one side. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/diagonals/baader-t-2-prism-star-diagonal-32mm.html Thx. Shall I think maybe in time for being a Xmas present. Sure will be worth the wait, just like the mount itself. John

Rob. Those rings look nice. Not seen that brand at FLO till now. The Moonlite was already in my possession from a previous frac. Once I got a flange via Rother Valley optics the fitting was straightforward. Had to be as I’m wary of messing like this with my gear. Anyhow. It’s nice once fitted but to be fair the supplied focuser was not shabby. Was a case of - I have the Moonlite so it had to be done. Enjoyvthe scope. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Never thort I’d own a quality 6 in frac. Weight and size are not an issue with this scope. Couple of pics of yours on the Sabre would be good to see. John -

Hello Peter. Really think the 150 finder on the SCT is just epic. Really need to look to paying the centre a visit after lockdown is eased yet again. john Rob. I got a pair of these 2nd hand but in immaculate condition from a fellow SGL member. Bit pricey brand new. The scope deserves them IMHO John https://www.firstlightoptics.com/primaluce-lab/primaluce-lab-155mm-plus-tube-rings-takahashi-fs-152-and-toa-130.html -

Hello. I’m lucky to have the same scope. The standard tube rings aren’t the best. I went with a pair of Primaluce CNC rings. Good to hear your scope is ready for a few sessions. John -

Hello. I’m using a UNI tripod and AZ100 with an Orion extension pier. Works well but can’t quite make my mind up. The pier has been on and off the tripod 3 times so far. Talk about indecisive??!! 🤣🤣 John -
Hello Dean. Nice price. I have one. Has transformed my sessions. Can sit comfy these days. I’ve bashed mine floundering around in the dark. john
