  1. As happy kat says, you could try this to dip your toes into it and see how things go. https://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/skywatcher-star-adventurer-pro-pack-bundle-with-tripod.html RVO do it as a bundle that's why I linked them in for this. Get a DSLR and away you go. Or try a small refractor with zwo 120 camera.
  2. I have a nagler 26mm and a nikon nav hw 17 and the one my hand always goes to is the nikon. Also I have read reports of comparisons between the ethos and nikon with the nikon always winning. A lot say just wins but I would say that if it was my eyepiece getting "just" beaten. I haven't verified this but the Nikon does have better ER, apparently more comfortable to use and have better contrast. I am looking forward to having a shootout at some point.
  3. My latest which will be used on the moon later with my zwo camera.
  4. Found now, 395$ should be around £350 plus postage. https://www.apm-telescopes.de/en/eyepieces/58-74-wide-angle/other/nikon-nav-sw-10mm-eyepiece.html
  5. Something different Mike, try these. Nikon There are retailers but this is off a quick search. I own the bigger brothers to these, quite expensive but if they are anything like the HW 17 & 12.5, you won't have to worry about it being well corrected across the fov.
  6. Repair seems good. I did however use a water based glue so somehow got to figure how to laminate this or similar. The other atlas's look great, but see how I get on with this first.
  7. As John says if the fov is sloppy as you go out and according to CN thread, this is on a relatively slow ish scope, what's the point. The Vixen SSW eyepieces have had some pretty good reviews and seem a far better option at the money your considering spending. Also worth considering are the Morpheus but a little less fov so maybe edging away from what your after here. Or push the budget a little more and get a nagler, you know your buying quality at that price. Steve
  8. I will spend much more time on focusing (I think it was slightly out) and getting the right exposure this time. It's all part of the learning curve
  9. Ah with you, sorry. Right ok I have to look at that next time, I will try again when the weather allows
  10. Only barely Pete. I am just having a better look. In the PIPP preview pane I enlarged the image much further and it does look soft around the edges but there is a prom but its not well defined. I am starting to think it was a poor focusing issue. I will play around with the data and see if I can get it a better result.
  11. I still have the orginal data so I could try restacking more frames to see if that helps, thanks for the tip.
  12. Not checked it out properly yet, but in brief it is twice as deep into the country as my wash out place the other night and also moves the LP source a further 6 km towards the west. I am hopeful that this will make it as you said a decent place for a quick jaunt. I have access to skies at 21.7, these are just over an hour away but I am not going there at the moment until the return of proper astronomical dark.
  13. I was using a delos with a diagonal, I hadn't screwed it in very tight, neither the diagonal or the eyepiece, (You know what's coming don't you) The diagonal rotated, the eyepiece fell to the floor denting the shaft badly although thankfully no damage done to the optics. I sent it back to TV who repaired it, wasn't cheap though but worth it.
  14. Actually nearer a half hour, the ten minutes is on top of the initial 20. Still good though. Now your just bragging 😉 I have observed under skies of 21.85, I got lost because there were that many stars. Thanks for the responses guys
  15. On a slightly more serious note, these are truly shocking and shame on amazon for their continued selling of them. I did a review check and there is nothing more recent than Feb 2019 which is a scathing one star review. There are no four or five star reviews since early 2018. Caveat Emptor springs to mind but nevertheless amazon really should have pulled the plug on these as they are a piece of junk for sure.
  16. Imaged the sun recently in HA and there were some fab proms on it. I wasn't sure about the focus, thought I had it good after lots of tweaks but the then the processed result was the image below. There is a ghostly prom just left of top, nothing like what I was seeing visually. Just watched the Stargazine zoom meeting and there was an emphasis on using a IR filter for deep sky imaging. Question is, will a IR filter help here and clear up the image more. Equipment used: Lunt LS 35 and ZWO ASI224MC. Sharpcap recording 1500 video frames, best 250 used in this stack.
  17. Zoom link here carole https://zoom.us/ meting log in details here
  18. Indeed, couldn't even see where you would be able to mount them!
  19. One of the most important things about a telescope in the aperture. IE the size of the actual telescope tube mirror or lens. Generally the bigger the aperture, the better your results in viewing night sky objects is likely to be. It viewing terms it really is a case of bigger is better. So for your budget of up to £150, I would go for the heritage 130p flextube. heritage Comes with basic eyepieces and is very portable too as a bonus. As an example a 70 mm aperture telescope gives about 15400 sq mm of aperture but a 130 one gives 53000. That is more than 3 times as much light gathering power. This translates that you will see planets, the moon and other objects in far more detail though the 130p.
  20. So not noticed it was missing until now, after 4 years of ownership. (see attaching picture). No idea when it went missing, don't actually recall ever seeing it being there is first place. I am assuming it was brass and as such would have shown up easily. I was going to strip one from another adaptor I have until I realised the TV is narrower in fitting width and tube diameter and so would not fit. Solutions explored so far are simply astroboot, but getting one runs the risk of buying something that also does not fit. I could try contacting TV but I am thinking my missing compression ring will be low down the priorities when they return to work from lockdown. ( I am well informed they currently are in lockdown shutdown) Is anyone on here aware of anyone who could make a replacement ring for this. Happy to pay going price, it's not an immediate thing I need but it's something I want as like any piece of good kit it is just part of how it should be.
  21. Ok so I am still at the beginning of my learning on this aspect of astronomy, only bought my ASI 224mc a month since. Watched lots of vids, read loads on here and other places and slowly getting to grips with practice. However there are rather less tools on the ASI software compared to sharpcap. Are you guys using it simply using roughly the same exposure/gain/gamma/balance as when using sharpcap or having to find all new settings? BTW my scope is a TS optics 80mm/330 frac with a 1.6 barlow to achieve focus. F6.6 equivalent. Cheers, steve
  22. Good report John, you had me sitting next to you with my mak in spirit anyway. I had a super view the othr night but they were a long way apart so no chance of a double view.
  23. Well the mount is getting loads of use. I added a EQ wedge to it and have been doing video astronomy with it. Also using it for HA solar. Regarding the 127 mak, I have just made a solar white light mask for it and intend trying it out on monday when the sun returns. It is brilliant for double stars, planetary and clusters and it's performance is disproportionately good compared to it's size. I did though originally get a 102 SW mak, that got sold and bought a celestron 127 SLT for it instead. Quick overview. The mount is simple to use, the tripod is useable but a little unsteady. I do mean a little, it's perfectly serviceable. although a 127 mak is on it's limit weight wise. I think the mount is brilliant overall. It can be up and running in a couple of minutes. Alignment is a cinch. It is accurate and tracks very well. I give the whole package 9/10, the mount itself 10/10. (It's the tripod where I drop it 1) Steve
  24. vliav's idea sounds more feasible given what I was seeing. This was like flashing pixels over the top of the actual sun. Most bizarre and a little un-nerving at first. Steve
  25. Ah Ok, quite a way from me then. Have you got the wifi gti or just thinking about getting one.
