  1. It was you who suggested flipping the mirror over so both arrows point out not the way I would of marked it but there it is, it was the only configuration left. the person who had it before cut the back off the little cap on the dust cap and put solar film in so before I got the wedge out I pointed it at the Sun and just looked through all blurred but when I started to focus I could see the spots I was doing a jig all around the garden. Put the wedge in and the celestron zoom focused I could not believe how good it looked went down to 8mm and was still focused there were a few whoops of joy I must say. Cannot wait now get a session in the dark.
  2. Well ladies and gentleman the scope is fixed. I am very surprised that the arrows both point the same way on the glass but its working now. Thank you everyone that has replied and helped really appreciate it. Paul
  3. In focus I have even got one of these to give me a extra 8/9mm

    A warm welcome to SGL
  5. I have had one for months but not had a good chance to give it a good review hopefully the weather picks up I have not been out since the first week in December. Won't work in the Tal with the herschel wedge won't focus.
  6. Would this fit my Vixen 102M so I can put a finder scope on. The original bracket is like this in the photo thank you for your help.
  7. Hi fellow SGLers who is going to this year's event at the new destination, as this will be my first time I would like to know who to look out for. Paul
  8. Right done it hissing down here so cannot try it looking like Monday morning now.
  9. I was thinking that worth a try I dont know how the person marked it up, I would have put the arrows pointing together but someone else could have done just what you said point them the same way.
  10. I could not try it because I had to send for the Baader adapter and the lens was dirty so I took it out to clean it then chipped one of the pieces so I cannot send it back. I have just took it apart now here are the photos.
  11. I did I came in and checked I had put them in the wrong way I swapped them and put it back together then tried it again. Once I had put it together I thought finally it will be good but no so I am at a loss to see what's wrong.
  12. Well that's it folks I am done selling up no point doing this hobby I am down £342 so selling up make my money back thanks for all your help and good luck to you all in the future.
  13. First light with the vixen it has not gone well. I put the mirrors back in with the arrows facing each other is that correct. I put the thinner glass to the front of the OTA is that correct. If both of these are correct scope is going the tip or someone can have it for parts. Set up for solar this morning edge of the sun is soft with fringing all around could not see any spots as would not focus so I am lost. I am really destroyed by this £342 down the drain when I havnt got that much money anyway. Just another nail in my coffin.
  14. Skywatcher 120ed that will do me I've heard good things about them. No idea what the Takahashi are like can you get a 4.5" to 5" one.
  15. I have read between April and September don't know how true it is.
  16. I would get a 25mm eyepiece and use that first, any stars you see are outside of our solar system and there are multiple double and triple stars. Plenty of galaxies, clusters to see in a 8" Look at the current thread, top ten targets for a beginner.
  17. I have two scopes that I own and one a lend. If the vixen is better than my Tal I will sell the Tal. I may get a 120mm at some point then I will just have the two. If I move to a better place I would like to get a reflector again.
  18. Got this today I can now use the vixen 102M just need clear skies.
  19. That is a neat solution I have two barlow`s but none of them would screw in this adapter is for vixen scopes although I didn't think it would fit as the measurements were different.

  22. I've just seen a pair of those advertised for a £170 on the bay I have heard good things about them. I will have to check those objects out with my 15x70s see if I can see them. Great report thanks for sharing.
  23. Saw this in my 8" reflector in Buxton that was a great night saw the whale and the hockey stick and other stuff.
  24. Thank you for your email. We no longer have any replacement lenses for an old Vixen 102M achromatic refracting telescope. We are sorry we are unable to help you in this matter. Best regards, Vixen Co., Ltd.
