eyepieces for 22" F3.5

Recommended Posts

I've been wondering for a while about the eyepieces for my scope build.I currently have the ES 100° in 20mm 14mm and 9mm and a 2x Barlow but I'm wondering if the 20mm is a bit wide of exit pupil as some have said it's on the limit and for decent contrast I should start at the 14mm.do the 100° eps work well with the bigger scopes or should I step down to 82° or even 70°?I was considering adding the 5.5mm 100° to my collection but I want to make sure I will get decent use out of what I have before I add to it.my main target is galaxies and nebulae

I guess a coma corrector will be mandatory at F/3.5 ?

The 20mm / 100 should be OK - I find an exit pupil of 5.7mm usable as long as the sky is reasonably dark.

The trouble is though that the 100's are showing masses of off axis field so the coma correction will have to be spot on to get the best out of them.

Given your targets, focal length and current set up I think you will be fine with what you have. The biggest unknown currently is mirror quality but I am sure this will be fine based on what you are doing. I have a 26mm nagler at native f4 and it is fine even in light pollution.

Good luck with your choices and finishing the project

agree with John and Shane, coma corrector will be essential, but you have sips so that sorted and if you like 100 deg views, you dont really need anything, unless as you said, you want to add 5.5mm for high powers.

Clear skies and looking forward to see your pics of your new build and your first light reports!

Sell them all and get Tele Vue.

Having switched from the ES20 / 100 to an Ethos 21mm, at some expense and despite being a massive TV fan, I'm not 100% sure I agree with that in all honesty :undecided:

Maybe F/3.5 will draw the differences out more than my F/5.3 does though ?

Well to be honest I have exactly zero experience with 100˚ ES so you could well be right.

My comment was more aimed towards the 68˚ and 82˚ ES ranges where I have compared them to TeleVue.
