Oh dear..is this the end of my astronomy..?!!

They started fitting the last lot of new street lights where they matter the most, the back of my garden...

This nasty otter is very high...and even 1m closer to me...I'm not sure how it'll affect me.

I took these photos from the bedroom window and the pole top is slightly higher than our window. I called the council and they said they have it on schedule to be shielded after all the lights have been installed. Let's see.

I'm honestly concerned this will kill my astronomy to the extent I'm now preparing my legal battle if I had to.

It looks like it could have an impact on visual astronomy not because of the views through the scope (should be better) but the difficulty of avoiding line of sight LP which will kill your night vision.

I am an imager an although i have a lamp shining directly at me my images are much better and in a way its helpful for seeing where my cat and dog are, both insist on being out with me and both have black coats.

Check out the environmental protection act ref light pollution. From memory these blasted things are not permitted to shine light upon your property. It needs a shield, of course you won't get rid of the overall town glow, unless there's a programme of turning them off in the early hours.

Might be worth asking how much they would save pa ?

I'm not actually worried about the views in the scope. It's just this stupid new light shining in my eyes...it's too high to create a screen around me...I don't know, it might still works. They should be functional by the weened, we'll see.

It's a shame, because my town is relatively small and the glow is limited. And yes, I'm educating myself on the legal procedures and directives involved.

it WILL make a difference and a nasty one at that! i had the same as you mate, fitted with new white light steet lamps, and they came and put in a shield a couple weeks later, and its totally and utterly Rubbish mate!!! its not even worth the money to put the shield up, it makes no difference what so ever!! dont know what the old school shields are like as i have heard people say its better with the old shields but with these new black shields they are total Rubbish! mate, our only option for dso imaging now will be to travel to a dark site :(

it was bliss tho when they were fitting my new lamp! i had 2 weeks of total darkness, thats when i got the galaxy pic in my sig! now, i wouldnt even know galaxies were up there! and thats with the shield :(
