First M42

Hello all.

My first M42.

6x105secs,4x60secs and 5 darks.

Taken using the 200p.

Not the greatest but i am really pleased with what i got.

I'd be pleased with that for a first attempt! I've yet to get motors for my mount, so am limited to one shot lunar shots at the minute.

I think you could probably tweak the bottom end of the RGB curve in Photoshop a little as the blacks are a little wishy washy.

Is your monitor calibrated?

Fab first shot all the same.

Awesome first go. Focus and tracking look spot on. Loads of detail and the image is very smooth indeed.

Very nice M42, did you take any flats? I would also recommend you take a lot more darks and start a library.

Pook, i`m not sure about the monitor.The processing was done in DSS. I don`t have photoshop. I have GIMP so i`ll have a go with that.

Pete, i didn`t take any flats and thanks for the advice on more darks.

Mark, the images were taken at ISO 800.

Andy, that's very nicely done. Some lovely detail, the core isn't blown out (very easy to do), you've every right to be pleased with that one.

Nice first M42 Andy - good focus, sharp stars! Very promising, with more subs and the same processing skill you'll have a cracker. (not that it isn't good already)

Nice one Andy! I'm yet to take my first steps at astrophotography but when I do M42 will be my first target.

Can I ask did use the Canon for this image? I also have the 200p so it's really interesting to see an image taken with this scope. If you did use the Canon I'd be interested to know if you needed any special adaptors in order to get the camera to focus etc (i.e, any focal length adaptors etc.)

Steve, i did use the Canon 350D for the image. No special adapters were needed to focus. Just the camera straight onto the OTA with THIS.
