Kaptain Klevtsov
I'd done this a week or two since with the Nikon, but couldn't get it to process properly. My problems have been with the colours as messed with by the CLS filter as well as the very poor red sensitivity of the Nikon anyway. With Moondog's help (see what he did in the help section) I've now got an image that I like. Hope you like this as much as I do.Captain Chaos

Astroman
Not a supernova. A SN this close would be a point source and BRIGHT, not extended. Not sure what it is at the moment, but I'll check when I have/make time.
Kaptain Klevtsov
Thanks AM, nice to have a proper astronomer aboard when you need one. I personally am very anxious to find out what it is.Captain Chaos
Astroman
Something to remember-a supernova will be brighter than the galaxy that contains it, adjusting for the extent. If a SN goes off in M31, it'll be naked eye bright from a dark site. Like, oh I don't know, mine for instance. 8)
Kaptain Klevtsov
But what if this one is behind the galaxy that we can see, in a more distant galaxy?Captain Chaos

Kaptain Klevtsov
Kain, you discovered it, not me. "Chance favours the prepared mind" as they say in our house. (As well as "Assumption is the mother of all ups")Captain Chaos

Astroman
But what if this one is behind the galaxy that we can see, in a more distant galaxy?Captain ChaosGood question! It would still be a point source, not extended. As for discovery, Kain would get it, (if it were something), but he'd most likely credit your photo in the discovery telegram. (They still call them "telegrams", even though they're emails.)
