Yet another Horsehead

Sparrow

Recommended Posts

Well here's my horsey for this season. Until I can get more data this is about as good as it gets. I desperately need better skies for longer exposures as this was from 5 minute exposures at ISO 800 - 2 1/2 hours of data. Once again the unmodded camera struggles with the fainter Ha. Hope you like it anyway.

Thanks for those kind comments. Always much appreciated. Yes I'm really pleased with the performance of the 1000D. Right from when I first got it, it was my aim to push it to the limit unmodified as I enjoy using it for daytime work aswell.

Shibby - yes I use the CLS clip filter for light pollution - without it I'd be restricted to exposures of no more than about 30 seconds - LP really bad here in Chester. The council delight in lighting up the sky - on a cloudy night I could do my gardening by night if I wanted to!!!!

My next project apart from gathering more data for this one, is to do a widefield of the Orion belt and sword - I'd dearly love to get Barnard's loop in the image if I can. Watch this space!!:D

Yeah I imagine the faint red stuff would be near impossible to capture without the LP filter. I don't think I'll even attempt the horsehead until I get one (on my Xmas list :D)

Thanks again for the kind comments guys.

MartinB - thanks for that - I've been comparing my images from last year with the same set up and must admit that another year of learning and experience is paying off. I'm tempted to post one of my first ever images alongside one of my latest - about 2 years apart, to give encouragement to people new to the hobby.
