Toilet Tents

Hi,

I am starting to find it a pain to drag my telescope in and out of the house, i have great views in my garden and would like to leave my scope outside.

Whats your opinion on using a toilet tent to keep my 200p and eq5 mount in, this one is for sale at argos.

or would it get damp and damage it?

Seems a great idea to me. Not sure about the damp.

My kit is permanently outdoors in a home-made obsy with a roll-off roof and can get very damp and dewey. Not sure what the long-term effects could be. Presumably most obsys have this issue, though?

People use them a lot a star parties, but then they are only out for a few days not all the time.

I think if you cover first with a waterproof telegizmo or BBQ cover and then a toilet tent I bet it will be alright.

cool, i have a waterproof cover already to put over scope then into tent, i would probably leave it out when i know there is good conditions and take it in for long periods of non-use of bad weather.

will wait till spring to build an observatory at end of garden.

modern polyester tents are not designed for extended periods of outdoor use the material breaks down over time in sunlight

I'd wonder about the longevity of it. These things are built to a price.....

yeh, i have had a think and i will get a shed and put it on my patio, i can at least store scope and insulate it, then move it in spring.

Maybe a small tool shed on wheels. A couple lengths of angle iron on the floor to act as runners and wheel back anf forth.

Thats what I'm thinking off.

Then some sort of turnbuckle arrangement to secure.

I've been looking at one of these for either a roll off shed, or a folding roof shed:

These tents aren't waterproof, either.

Any contact with the membrane and the water will go straight through the fabric and onto the scope.

The mower store is a great idea - lockable and looks fairly innocuous.

That mower shed for £123 looks like a great bargain - I've seen slim tool sheds half the size for more
