Imaging Jupiter

I have tried imaging Jupiter last night but I think that I made the AVIs too long at 3000 frames @ 15 fps as I know that the rotation is quite short. Can anyone give me the maximum time I can image.

Any idea to cut an AVI down in size? I was a bit tired and let one avi go on for 8 minutes, and the data looks good.

Try Castrator to cut the frames in size

it can olny crop the frame. Autostakkert should stack the cropped version.

Cheers! I found a program called dubstep or something like that which worked ok. Castrator works well for what it does too!

I thought Vdub could crop avi lengths

i`ve heard 2 minutes maximum time length,

also if you are useing registax can`t you just unclick all the frames at one end so the program does`nt use them ?

Dwalf is correct re registax, but also virtualdub can be used to cut avi's to length and it's free.

I think it depends on focal length. I`m sure its about 90 secs per channel if doing RGB....

Hi,

I am using LEAD MJPEG codec when recording with IC capture. It uses compression, so you have f.e. 50-100 Mb AVI when shooting 1000-2000 frames ( depends on frame size also ). I don't see any negative effect of the compression, it is apparently very high quality.
