Orion, Rising on it's Side

Hello guys and gals

i remember a while ago when we were discussing Maldives somewhere in SGL, someone mentioned he/she has been to Maldives and how strange it was watching Orion rise on it's side

well, i did not think it rose upright in UK until then, lol. and it would be strange for ME to see it rise upright

so i went out tonight to catch it rise, about 30 minutes ago (Aug 23, 2010. 03:30 am local time)

and here it is, Orion rising on it's side

the image is facing East exactly.

sorry for the movement of the boats in the small harbour. the wall on the horizon is the breakwater, and the moon was about 20 degrees up in the west hence so light. it was a 20 sec exposure in ISO 800.

for those who doesn't know, Maldives straddles the equator.

That's created a very atmospheric photo with the drifting clouds and harbour and I do feel rather strange and chilled out having looked at it. I Like it.

You'll have to pop over to one of our UK star parties to see another orientation of Orion.

Nice image, I was in Argentina last christmas and seeing Orion upside down felt really strange.

First time i flew south of Ireland (Canary Islands) i couldnt find Orion. I had never thought about him rising on his side and setting while standing up.
