1st shot of moon

I am yet to get my scope etc, but this was taking with my 300mm DSLR lens on my tripod.

Great for a first attempt George. I think it may be a little out of focus (focus is the hardest thing to get right in astro imaging) and a touch over exposed. It's a nice image though!

Nice one George. Been doing similar things myself. As has been said, the focus is hard to get right. Have you tried live view mode and then selecting higher magnification on the screen? This should allow you to manually focus much more accurately. I've got a Canon ES1000D and it works quite well on that. Good luck!

1st shot is always memorable, a lovely big full moon and can see all the Mares joining together.

Nice Moon. I also find it very difficult to get a good focus on the moon with my 300mm lens on my fixed tripod. Its especially difficult with a full moon as in your image. There really is no fine detail to latch onto to get the focus sharp.
