Somewhere to check Jupiter's red spot?

I've managed to convince myself that, the night before last, during a couple of brief moments of stillness amongst otherwise terrible seeing, I saw Jupiter's great red spot. Does anybody know of anywhere (a website, for example) where I can check where the GRS really lies, so I can decide if I really saw it or whether it was just wishful thinking.

I always use Starry Night Pro5 but you should be able to view Jupiter's moons and surface details on the free software Stellarium.

If you do a google search you should find it unless someone gives you a proper link. This software will also be great for finding DSOs and the fainter planets Uranus and Neptune.

That's excellent - I'd never realised that Stellarium's image was accurate - d'oh. Now I've had a look, I think it might have been wishful thinking, and I didn't see the spot. At least I now know...

Have a look at the freeware Jupiter 2 software....

Thanks, Merlin. I don't run Windows, but did manage to find what I needed on Stellarium and also have just tried Xephem, which also shows Jupiter 'as it happens'

You can check on-line at the Sky and Telescope website. The times (in U.T) given are for when the GRS is on the central meridian of the disc.

I use the calsky website:

Click on Planets, then Jupiter, then apparent View/Data.
