EQ5 motor drive help

I have recently bought EQ4/5 dual axis motor drives for my EQ5 mount. I've had them working, but they've never tracked properly.

I've been using a variable voltage mains adaptor rated at 500mA but that exploded in a puff of smoke when I accidentally had it set to 12 volts, not the usual 6.

I now need to buy another adaptor but nowhere does it say how many amps the motors draw... does any body know?? I don't want to just guess and risk starting any more fires or damaging the motors.

Have you tried using the battery pack to check the motors work?

Hi' with my motors i use a 6 volt adapter which work fine, or 4' 1.5 batts but they don't last that long.Mark

yeah, the motors themselves are fine - they track ok with the battery pack.

how many milliamps is your adaptor rated for Mark? Mine was 500mA. I figured that's why it wasn't tracking properly - not enough amps.

I am running my EQ-5 with a 3v to 12v power supply set to 6v the power supply is 2a rated.

Dont know about the EQ5 but the HEQ5 draws about 2 amps on a fast slew.

I have the eq5 motors and measured the current at 500mA with both motors running, so a 500mA supply will probably be a bit flakey at best. I would suggest a 1A supply as a

I reckon 1000mA is sufficient, but I ran my EQ3-2 dual-axis motors (which are pretty much the same thing) using a PSU rated at 1.5A and had no problems. Before that I had a supply rated at something like 600mA and that struggled.
