Comet Jupiter and iridium flare

Recommended Posts

Watched comet SW3 part B for a while last night, it looked fairly bright

through my 200mm F6 despite a hugely bright moon.

Lovely objects to see 8)

Took various images through the session including a predicted Iridium flare.

Nice to be out and not freezing my socks off :D

Yes it was a good night, started with a nice barbecue, a drink of something cool

watched Pearl Harbour on telly and then had a great couple of hours out under the moon glow :D

Steve

Yep its a Dob but I mounted the OTA on my CG5 mount to take some higher power tracked images.

Aahhh yes, I remember now; that Revelation Dobsonian is doing you proud :D

Great images.

I have never seen an iridium flare - how common/predictable are they?

Steve, Iridium flares are very predicatble, go to the Heavens Above website, register, it's free, put in your location and away you go

Steve

Don't forget to add an hour for BST, if you click on the time, it produces a map, hold that up the sky, with North pointing north, and it gives you the direction to look, the nearer to the flare path the brighter, over about 10km they are quite dim and brief.
