  1. We got lots of planes around here that are difficult to see in the dark, lights yes, fuselage no.

    Aurora ???

Having lived in the north of Scotland and Orkney, you can forget astronomy and any chance of aurora for the next month, the sky does not get dark enough. You will have twilight at best and it will be the end of August before you start getting any darkness for any amount of time. The brightest planets, the Moon and Sun would be your only chance.
  3. Welcome from another one in North Norfolk.
  4. The original post is from 2007, so I have closed it, as there is no point in further posts.

    Norwich newb

Welcome Ray from a clouded in Sheringham, not seen a clear sky for ages now.
  6. I do miss the Merry Dancers Stewart, so I have to rely on your photos. These look spectacular with the red shooting up into the sky.
  7. Fingers crossed that they don't suffer to badly, still smoke and ash will take some clearing from the optics.
  8. Heads up, BBC4 tonight 13th January from 7pm, three editions of Sky at Night, a look back at his life at 8.30pm and Sir Patrick talks to Mark Lawson at 9pm.
  9. Not cheap, but could be useful, pity I have just bought a new second hand D300
  10. Will have to return to the North just to get a fix, that's the effect your shots have Stewart. Excellent photo.

  13. Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF, early model with aperture setting ring in perfect condition for 12€ (about £9) at a vide grenier (car boot) in France, worked a treat on my D200 . Got £60 for it when I raised funds to get the Sigma 70-200 f2.8.
  14. I agree, nothing will totally deter the little devils, but, and it's a big but, forestery workers in the north of Scotland use http://avonshop.co.u... soft&pagenum=2 It certainly appeared to work and make it bareable, with very much reduced bites when I went fishing at night for sea trout in the Cairngorms.
  15. and to give the general public something they can relate too
