Images from my trip to Scotland, 6-20 June 2009

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I've just come back from a relaxing 2 week stay in Galloway. I got a whole stack of images, which I have trimmed down to the ten best. I've presented these in chronological order, so I hope you will wait for the bottom ones to download as they are the better ones (well I think so at least!).

All were taken using the 20D and Zenitar 16mm fisheye at f3.5, with a mixture of ISO 200 and 400. Star trail shots were stacked in Startrails v1.1.

It was fun, prowling around an ancient site at the dead of night. I went up here twice, for 2-3 hours apiece and didn't see another soul. The bright star between the central stones is Antares.

Cracking shots Dave, very atmospheric. The NLCs are lovely too, esp the wide format ones with the cairn.

(My missus was fascinated by the trails!)

Glad you had a good break.

Cheers for the comments folks.

Your pictures are superb Dave, and really well thought out.

Did you stay at the Galloway Astronomy Centre by any chance. Or the Farmouse ?

Ron.:)

Ron, it was just a holiday let near Gatehouse of Fleet. Judging by the lack of light pollution, however, I intend to go back - possibly to the astronomy centre or the star camp in November.
