IFN Novice - first attempt

I know I've not got near enough data but this is my first attempt at processing IFN in the region of M81/M82.

I've tried every trick I know to stretch the data, contain the stars and minimise the noise - all with varying degrees of success - or failure!

Anyway I thought I'd share and hopefully get some helpful C&C.

Taken with an ASI294MC + Samyang 135mm - 51 x 120s.

Still brilliant despite your reservations, Bodes and the Cigar looks so good in there too.

Thanks Adam. I collected the data on the 20th/21st and the above is my 5th or 6th revision. Time to stop I think.

I just recently tried IFN for the 1st time too. Not at all easy.....the only road to success is getting as much data as you can. Large scopes and fast CMOS seems to be the way to go....but also can be done with a less fast set-up......but needs lots of time.

you've hoovered up a shed load of the stuff!

Thank you Martin - the Samyang is good for "hoovering up" photons. The trick is knowing what to do with 'em once you've got 'em in the bag!

Thanks again.

Not for the faint hearted this target,

You definitely went the right way by using the samyang lens,

was this taken in a dark location, and were any filters used,

or was it just pure RGB you capturing.

Very good effort indeed.

you certainly captured  a lot of the IFN in the region,

I think I would have backed off a bit on the processing and it it still would have been a awesome catch.

Nicely done

It's Bortle 3 round here so not too bad really. I took a lot more lights but very high cloud put paid to quite a few.

It is just RGB albeit with a UV/IR filter on the front of the camera.

It's always difficult knowing when to stop with the processing. I was trying to maximise the contrast whilst at the same time keeping the stars under control. A tricky business!

Thanks for the kind comments.
