SW EvoGuide 50ED for wide field imaging?

Hi everyone,

As the title says, has anyone used this G/scope just for imaging only...if so, what's it like performance wise?

I'm looking for a light weight imaging scope for my iOptron SkyGuider Pro mount as my current Lacerta 72mm Apo set up is too heavy with all the cameras etc.

I've put a swap advert on the classifieds, but no luck so looking at this option,

Thanks,

Mark :)

I think it depends on the imaging camera - there is now a flattener available for it I believe but from what Ive seen (Im sure there was a thread with a link to a you tube video on here, I think the producer is a member of this forum) you wont be able to get good stars across a DSLR sensor but might well get acceptable results from some of the smaller CMOS sensor cameras.

Hello, I've used it w the flattener for widefield AP & am pretty happy with it.  The v helpful video that @blinky refers to is in this linked thread (along w some sample images I took).  There is a way of putting filters in as well.  Much cheaper than a Redcat, and the weight that comes w the SkyGuider Pro should balance the whole kit (it did for me w an ASI294MCPro). Cheers.

Optically I’ve found the Evoguide to be fine, but if you are looking at using this as an imaging camera then beware the focuser.  The Evoguide I have has some slop on the rotary focuser, which does not lock down.  It seems OK for autoguiding but I could not imagine it to be stable with a heavier imaging camera attached.
