Old Atik16HR Mono, worth a punt?

I had an Atik16i for a short while.  Not sure what the difference is to the HD version you are talking about.

Assuming it is more or less the same camera, if it is mono it will be a lot more sensitive than a Canon camera, but the FOV will be tiny plus you would need filters and a filterwheel.  If it's the colour version, I would not bother it will ot be more sensitive and the FOV small in comparison.  Even the cooling was hit and miss with this camera.

I think the sensor is 2/3". Which I appreciate is smaller than the canon. But it is significantly larger than the old Samsung SCB2000 I picked up for next to nothing and also the Altair gp cam which is 1/3" I believe and also not really suitable for DSO imaging at all.

How much are you looking to pay for it?

I got a Artemis 285 which is the same camera off ABS. It cost £300 . I had to make new seals for optical window and buy some desiccant but otherwise its giving good results .Usb 1 is slow for bias as each download is 13 seconds binning 1  .But for a 300 second light frame 13 secs not so bad.

This is an image I am working on - M51  60 x 300 secs  bias & flats

Go for it .

I have a 16hr mono, and as said above has the same chip( 285) as the 314sensor size is 1392 x 1040, 6.45 um pixels.. no set point cooling but it does -27 from ambient..no dark frames needed as I found it added noise to the image, even if i did them in the same imaging eve.. it's a great camera, plenty good enough to dip your toe in the world of ccd imaging.. I was going to hang onto mine for my sct as it has bigger pixels than my 460..
